Carol asked: How do I remove white burn marks from my black glass stovetop? I let some eggs I was boiling go dry and explode. The copper bottom pan left a white burn mark on the burner. I have tried soda, water and lemon with no avail. The commercial glass stove top cleaner did not work either.
Some damage to a glass cooktop simply can’t be reversed. Most removable stains and discolorations, however, can be cleaned quite handily with this product favorite.
You Will Need:
- Bar Keepers Friend
- Damp sponge
- Paper towels
Steps to Remove the Stain:
- Squirt liquid Bar Keepers Friend directly onto the stain. If you’re using the powder version, you must wet it into a paste before using it on a glass cooktop.
- Moisten a sponge with plain water.
- Rub the stained area gently.
- Repeat if necessary until the stain is removed.
- Wipe the area clean with damp paper towels.
Additional Tips and Advice
- If you don’t see an improvement on the stain, allow the Bar Keepers Friend to sit on the spot for a few minutes, but do not allow it to dry on the surface.
- Bar Keepers Friend is nonabrasive and safe for use on glass cooktops.
- Do not use scouring pads or other abrasive cleaning agents on glass cooktops.
- If desired, there are ceramic cooktop polishes and cleaners that are made by the manufacturers of the cooktops. These can be found at appliance, hardware and home improvement stores.

NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK.

I also tried the same interventions and still have the grayish color stain from an aluminum pot that got too hot. Any suggestions would be great!

Glass on top of one burner is completely white. How and what do I use to clean it?
Melanie says
Roger,
Try using the liquid Bar Keepers Friend as described above. That should take care of the white stain. Good luck!

I Live in BC in Canada, where would I find “Bar Keepers Friend”? I am going to CA soon for a few days, do you know of a store I can try to find it?
Melanie says
Jane,
It looks like Walmart in Canada carries it – here is a link. In the U.S., most Walmart stores, Target, grocery stores and even hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes carry it. Here is a link to the BKF website that shows stores where it can be found in each state. The one you want is the “Cleanser and Polish”. Good luck!

I tried everything on cloudy white mineral stains on my black cooktop. Finally I soaked a paper towel in white vinegar, let it sit on the burner for about 30 minutes, then scrubbed the burner with the paper towel. Then, dry with a clean rag or paper towel. It worked! I still have a few small spots but I’m confident I’ll get those off with another vinegar treatment. Just did this last night.

I bought some glass cooktop cleaner/polish cream at home depot, applied it, tried to buff it out with a towel, it did nothing. I really gave it some good elbow grease and still, made no difference.
